During the last decades, traditional metal pipes have been replaced by plastic pipes. The driving forces of this change are lower prices, better sanitation, and environmental concern. Additional reasons are improvement of the properties of the plastics, such as increased resistance to pressure and heat. Among other plastic materials, PP-R pipe became most widely used for hot water systems due to its good quality aspects and advantages in installation as well as reasonable economics.
The demand for PP-R pipes have been increased rapidly not only in Europe where the demand initially began, but also in the Middle East and China. PVC , one of the most widely used materials in manufacturing pipes, is being replaced by PE and PP for environmental reasons.

With continuous product development to meet market requirements, in 1998 Hyosung launched R200P, high molecular weight low-MFR polypropylene-ethylene random copolymer. R200P is recommended for pressure pipe manufacturing and injection moulding of fittings for use at elevated temperatures. It is available in natural, gray, green, white, and blue colors. Even though the sales initiated in the Middle east and Turkey, it soon become biggest share in China and South east Asian market. Now, R200P is selling in Germany, the Czech Republic and Russia.

A comparison between R200P and B240P(PP-B)
Hyosung is also producing block copolymer 'B240P' for PP-B pipe system, which is mostly used for cold water pipes or hot water pipes at lower temperature
| R200P | B240P |
Advantage |
- Superb creep rupture strength to heat and pressure : ISO 15874 , DIN 8078
- Due to superb heat fusion and flexibility - construction is also superb Superb flexibility and freezing breakage |
- Superb impact strength : Convenient shipping - Superb productivity. |
Disadvantage |
- Needs to be handled with care due to low impact strength compared to PP-B |
- Weak creep rupture strength |
